Crossfit Day 187 – I got Featured!! – 1/5/13

1/5/13 Day 187 – RUSSELL FEATURED ME ON THE SITE! YEAH!!! Pretty cool.. I was excited and honored that my coach thought my collage was worthy of posting up and sharing with others. 🙂

My Crossfit Before and After Photo Collage

anyway.. more games WODs! Workout 12.3

Complete as many rounds and reps as possible in 18 minutes of:
15 Box jumps, 24/20″ box
115/75 pound Push press, 12 reps
9 Toes-to-bar

Today I took my Mommy in for the WOD. She loved it!! We did some modifications for her, but it was okay! While one person did the above stuff, the other would run a 400m.  We opted to row instead, a) for my feet and b) because my mom’s knee is messed up. She’s much better on the rower. 🙂

We did 6 rounds, I believe! I forget, because we didn’t log it, but still! She hung in there with me and did a great job. So proud of her!

I got through 75 reps (12 thrusters) YEAH. Then we had a fantastic bonus WOD of 50 hollow rocks and 50 v-sits for time.. 4:39. Boom! That shit sucked.

Julie Foucher – An Amazing Crossfit Competitor –

I photoshopped this the other night.. I love it. 🙂 Julie Foucher opted to focus on Med School this year, instead of trying to balance school with competing in the 2013 Games. She won 2nd place in 2012.

http://juliefoucher.com/2012/10/27/my-2013-crossfit-games/

Anyway, she’s someone I genuinely admire.. I look at her stats, and even though she’s sooo much smaller than me, she can clean and jerk, and snatch more than I can. Crazy! Like way more! Our deadlifts and backsquats are right about the same though. 😀

As someone who is a business owner, I can understand putting everything you have into doing what you love, following your dream, and doing what it takes to make shit happen. I also understand what it’s like to make decisions in the best interest of your business, livelihood, dreams and goals, even if those decisions may hurt or affect others. It’s a difficult thing to do. I admire her will and decision to follow her dreams of finishing medical school, knowing that maybe later she can come back and compete again.

Crossfit Day 185 – Games 2012 WODs 12.1 and 12.2 – 1/2/13

On our first day back from the new year, We did some Crossfit Sectionals WODs to see where we stood with some of the world’s top Crossfit athletes.

Workout 12.2

Proceed through the sequence below completing as many reps as possible in 10 minutes of:
75/45 pound Snatch, 30 reps

165/100 pound Snatch, 30 reps
210/120 pound Snatch, as many reps as possible

I finished 66 snatches, which means I got all the way through 6 reps of 100lb snatches!! My PR is only at 115, so close!!

Rest 5min

wod:12.1
Max Burpees in 7minutes

I DID 70 BURPEES IN 7 MINUTES! So excited. It’s the number I wanted… 10 a minute average. Even though my first minute I knocked out 20 of them, and paced myself the rest of the time, it’s still what I wanted. I was so excited!! I love baselines..

The last time I did any number of burpees, it was 100 for time with Kaycie, my niece. I’m pretty sure it was something like 12-13 minutes, at LEAST, that it took me to finish those.. My burpee times have definitely improved over the last few months. AWESOME!

Crossfit Day 184 – New Year’s Eve WOD – 12/31/12

My At Home WOD from New Year’s Eve.  We weren’t doing anything, and I felt compelled to get out and do something..

Okay fine, the real story is, I got into an argument with my Mom over something ridiculous, and it made me so fucking aggravated and angry (principle of something, plus some underlying issues that needed to be addressed) that the only thing that would resolve it was to walk away and leave. Had I stayed, it would’ve escalated into something beyond repair, so I walked away.

I grabbed my keys, got in the car, and set out to take a drive around the neighborhood, but all I could think about was working out.. I wanted to just WORK OUT. Who does that? Me, apparently..

So I went to this part of the neighborhood that’s not developed yet, parked and walked around the streets for about 10 minutes. (two long cul-de-sacs, unbuilt, just empty, wooded land.. I love it out there..)

It was freezing, (well, low 50s is freezing for us Floridians) and I only had my tshirt and jeans on. I did some squats and lunges and decided my barefoot or Birkenstocked feet wouldn’t cut it. I drove home, changed my clothes, told Dave where I was going and returned back to my little remote spot.

I turned on my CardioTrainer app to check the distance I kept using to run. It was 230m. So.. I used that as part of my little WOD. Here it is, my New Year’s Eve Cooling Off from Arguing with my Mom WOD.

My New Year’s Eve WOD

By the time I was done, I was refreshed, warm, my mind was clear, and I was in much better spirits. My mom and I worked it out the next morning, too. 🙂

Crossfit Day 183 – Open Gym – 12/30/12

Open Gym!

Here’s what we did: Our very own hero WOD.

3 HSPUs
19 Front Squats (75lbs, for all the bar weights)
43 Pull Ups
3 HSPUs
19 Push Press
43 Wall Balls
3 HSPUs
19 Hang Power Cleans
43 Push Ups
3 HSPUs
19 Overhead Squats (I did back squats)
43 Jumping Lunges (butt blasters!)

wee! That was awesome. My ass has been sore for days from those jumping lunges!! That was an awesome workout.

Crossfit Day 182 – 12/28/12

I was fortunate to be able to come in at 6:30p Friday.. normally we don’t have 6:30p classes, but Russell was staying late. Worked for me! It was definitely weird to work out along side my coach, without him coaching me. I had to push myself and compete with myself, which is something I’m not used to doing in the gym setting. I’m used to having others cheer me on, and motivate me simply by being there. Just by watching others’ progress and performance keeps me motivated to push forward. This was a neat way to work out though. On my own with Russ, without any motivation.

We did the following WOD:

50 Wall balls
50 Toes-to-bar (I did these on the floor, to save my hands)
Run 800 meters (rowed)
75 pound Push press, 75 reps
150 Double-unders (300 singles)

I finished in 19:49. Russ finished in 21:22, but he Rxed it. 🙂 Still, I was very happy with my time!

I’m 19 workouts away from 200 Crossfit Workouts

Seems like I’ve done more than 181 workouts, but it’s also a huge accomplishment too. I’m 1 month away from my 1 year Crossfit anniversary, I’m 27 or so days away from my 32nd birthday, and Wodapalooza. I’m nervous about it, but there’s nothing I can do except try it and give it my best shot.

I’ve eaten like shit here and there, much to my dismay, for the past few days. I’ll blame it on Christmastime but still, I’m disappointed. This is time where I could’ve made progress but instead I just stayed in the same spot.

I’m still at my lowest weight.. haven’t dropped any more weight, but I did have to buy another new belt.  This means I’m still getting smaller, even though the numbers don’t reflect it on the scale. My friend Karla made me think of this.. it’s hard to be at your lowest weight in this whole journey, meanwhile, others are starting at the weight you’re currently at. I’m happy with where I’m at, I’m not the same build as other people. I will never be a tiny gymnast..

to be continued.. 😀 (ie I got up and walked away and lost my train of thought.. probably cause Dave walked in or something and distracted me..)

Crossfit Day 181 – 12/26/12

The day after Christmas.. I went to the 4:30p class, which is usually the 4th class of the day, but there were no other scores on the board from the morning classes (there weren’t any morning classes!). It was so weird! I didn’t realize how accustomed I was to checking other people’s scores and numbers and times and then setting my own goals based on that. I literally felt lost without a goal time or weight to compare my effort to.. It was eerie, and eye opening too.

So anyway.. we did a 400m run as a warm up, which I did, but I opted to row instead of run for the WOD. I didn’t want to jeopardize my feet getting injured again like last time, where I could barely fucking walk the day after.

Our workout was the following:

400m Run before each set
21-15-9
Deadlifts (225/155)
Burpee Box Jumps (24/20″)

Like I said, I rowed instead of ran, which was good for my feet. I RXed the weight and the height, of course. Those burpees get me every time, but I pushed through.

This may be weird to some, but it’s an achievement/accomplishment for me.. something that used to always bug me!! I’ve been noticing something lately.. while I row, when I bend my knees and bring the handlebar thing back to starting position, I don’t have to move my knees out of the way of my tummy anymore when I come all the way up to the front of the rower. I can bring myself all the way back to starting position and keep my knees bent, but close together, because my tummy has gotten so much smaller. does that make sense?? It makes sense to me, and it’s AWESOME. 🙂

Crossfit Day 180 – 12/24/12

The Day Before Christmas.. One last WOD before Christmas, of course!

Shoulder Press
5-5-5-3-3-3

I maxed out at 95lbs. My 1RM for shoulder press is 105lbs, so I was pretty happy with 3 reps of 95. These are hard for me.. I drive with my legs. The strict weight pressed upwards is always a challenge for me. I’m happy that my strength has pretty much stayed the same in this area though, especially considering I limit it somewhat with my shoulder issues.

Our WOD was the following:

Tabata

Calories
Squats
DU
Parrallet Pushups
We did 4min at each station, 8 full rounds of tabatas.

I ended up doing 440, with singles and regular push ups. Happy!
