Crossfit Day 466 – Peak 360 – 15.5 – 3/30/15

So because I flew back into West Palm from our New Hampshire snowboarding trip on Saturday evening, Dave decided to fly down to Fort Lauderdale early Sunday, have me pick him up, book a room, and go to Ultra on the last day (Sunday the 29th). Ultra Music Fest is something we usually do every year, but this year we said we weren’t going to go. We did. We couldn’t stay away, and actually, it was perfect. We went for one day, experienced the madness, got to see some great music, eat some great food, and done.

Because I knew we wouldn’t be back to Jax by 5p EST no matter what was said or promised, I made arrangements with Peak360 CrossFit again, just as I did last year, to come do the final WOD of the Open.

I got to see Noah Ohlsen again, and he even took the time to judge me and cheer me on during the WOD!

It was a beast of a workout, and a total gasser. Everyone kept saying this but I just wasn’t believing them, apparently.

15.5 was:

27-21-15-9 reps for time of:
Row (calories)
Thrusters (65lbs)

I finished in 13:52.

What sucked was, I had a cough during our trip up North, and it hadn’t quite gone away when we returned back to FL. The dryness of the air and the lack of oxygen in my lungs made for a whole buttload of fun times. 🙂

Me, Noah’s amazing pup, and Noah!

We sped off to some amazing Cuban food afterwards, in which I sat there and died the entire time. Exercise-induced asthma, they call it, and I’m sure I set my healing time back by about a week by doing that WOD, whatever. I got to WOD at Peak360 again and finish another CrossFit Open!

Hey Let’s Go Snowboarding in New Hampshire! March 25th-29th, 2015

I was on a whirlwind trip around the country after Pete and Katie left! First my e-bff and I decided it would be fun to go snowboarding in New Hampshire. I had never been up there and she hadn’t ridden in forever, so our thoughts were.. fuck it. Why not?! So we did.

Typically how the two of us are, I am learning.

So.. I drove to West Palm Wednesday night (the 25th of March) and early the next morning, we flew to Boston, rented a sweet car (sweet talked the guys at the rental car company into upgrading us to a TAHOE YES PLEASE), and thank god, because so many things happened where our sweet Tahoe came in quite handy. And.. being girls, who were SNOWBOARDING, we way overpacked and had way too much shit. Totally no big deal with a Tahoe though.

Us in our sweet Tahoe, on a mission to find food. We settled on Chipotle as our Welcome to Boston meal.

After delicious Chipotle, we set north for Attitash Mountain! A few hours north into New Hampshire. Apparently we also took some back roads that we didn’t have to take, but whatevs, we didn’t know that. We made it, loved the location of our sweet little mountain chalet apartment. Equipped with groceries, our snowboards, and everything else, we decided to do a few practice runs before we called it a night.

Her giggles and my giggles pretty much set the stage for our trip. We laughed and talked shit and daydreamed and laughed some more, and it was amazing! We cooked almost every meal, sat and watched lots of TV and we went snowboarding!! It was awesome.

Snow check with our coffee!

Ready! Where’s the lift??

WE FOUND THE LIFT!

Out exploring!

Love this girl so much! And.. to think that it was CrossFit that brought us together, too!! Friendships like this are so hard to come by. To have someone out there who will just.. up and plan a trip with me for no reason (JUST BECAUSE OKAY!?) is so awesome. E-BFF FOREVS

Crossfit Day 465 – 15.4 with Pete and Katie – 3/20/15

So it has sort of become tradition that when Pete and Katie are here, that we do an Open WOD at CFTC! It’s become a thing. And then Pete goes home and kills it at his home base and destroys his FL scores. I get it. Don’t want to make us look bad or anything! 😉

So 15.4 was a tough one. It was HSPUs and Cleans. Lots of them. And the measuring for HSPUs was weird, and I can’t even do 1 unless I have an abmat and a plate, so.. I did scaled again. Fine, whatevs.

Scaled was ridiculous.
10 push press (65)
10 cleans (75)
repeat, repeat, repeat

So silly that it was different weights.. because then everyone doing scaled needed two bars, double weights. It just wasn’t very efficient, I don’t think.

Anyway.. I ended up doing 138 reps. Which is great and all, but it was scaled. I still did well, and I still enjoyed the work! My traps and shoulders especially appreciated it.

Katie and Pete did awesome, too! Of course. I am so proud of them. I need to post some pics of us!

Life Happens, I’m just not very good at it sometimes. 4/15/15

Just posted this to my Facebook page.. It’s my own version of Buddha’s words, but much more fitting for my life.

In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how eagerly you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you.
So far, I have learned that I love too much, I don’t always live eagerly enough, and I need to work on this gracefully letting go thing..

I won’t elaborate. Yes, things are fine. No, I’m not perfect. I need to get a hold of myself and just work on being awesome. I often place too many expectations on others, and the end result is just me getting let down. I need to knock that shit off.

I am my own. I am lucky and fortunate. I have everything I could possibly want or need. I need to work on appreciating it all. It’s so easy to lose sight of all this, and instead focus on the things I can’t have, or don’t have but really want. We will all be okay.

How Motivated am I Right Now? I’m not.. 4/12/15

I’m motivated just fine to go to the gym, but when it comes to updating this damn blog, I am not motivated at all. It actually drives me crazy, because the more I go work out, the more my posts accumulate, and the more I dread posting.

Awesome.

Expect to see several short, sweet, and to the point posts this week, in my lame attempt to catch up. If nothing else, these posts serve as a record for me for my workouts and my progress. I need to keep remembering that as the main focus for starting this.

yaaaaay

Crossfit Day 463 – Death by Thrusters and a PR! – 3/9/15

Find your 1RM Squat Clean Thruster

I PRed AGAIN! I was able to do a 165lb Thruster! That’s only 10lbs less than my old C&J 1RM! Dude.. I can totally go up. SO AWESOME.

WOD:
Death by Thrusters
75/55lbs
Min 1, 1 thruster
Min 2, 2 thrusters, etc

til you just CAN’T go any further!

I got through minute 15!!!! I was going for 16 or 17, but, I’ll take it. That was rough and I wanted to quit (but I didn’t) and when I finished, my legs hurt, my arms hurt, everything hurt and was shaking, BUT IT WAS AWESOME.

Crossfit Day 462 – 15.2 – C2B PR! – 3/8/15

So I’ve never done a Chest to Bar before.. and when the Open WOD was released, being a repeat of one of last year’s Open WODs, I was like, fuck, here we go again.

WORKOUT 15.2

Every 3 minutes for as long as possible complete:
From 0:00-3:00
2 rounds of:
10 overhead squats (95 / 65 lb.)
10 chest-to-bar pull-ups
From 3:00-6:00
2 rounds of:
12 overhead squats (95 / 65 lb.)
12 chest-to-bar pull-ups
From 6:00-9:00
2 rounds of:
14 overhead squats (95 / 65 lb.)
14 chest-to-bar pull-ups

Etc., following same pattern until you fail to complete both rounds

I of course did my 65lb overhead squats in no time. And then I spent the rest of the time working on getting that ONE Chest to Bar… I can do pull ups now, so why can’t I just go up a little higher and do C2B?!?! Well, with Russ’s coaching and Dave’s motivation, I GOT ONE! Ecstasy, really. Seriously. I keep improving in these little things. You wouldn’t know it by my weight, or size, or appearance, but it’s slowly happening. Beaming!! I got ONE! I finally could submit a score showing that I was able to get past the OHS.

____________________

I ended up repeating my WOD the next day and I got another two reps! Tom helped me and coached me, so with the help of Dave, Russ and Tom, I was able to figure out the physical strategy of getting high enough up on the bar. Three whole reps! Score of 13 resubmitted, whaaat. 🙂

Crossfit Day 461 – Overhead Complex – 3/3/15

We did a 5×1 complex, which I’m actually starting to enjoy more. I used to not, but these tests are cool.

5×1 Overhead Complex
2 Push Press + 2 Push Jerk + 1 Split Jerk

I got 135lbs for the complex. I could’ve gone up, but I don’t remember why I didn’t. I think my wrists were bugging me, so we’ll go with that.

WOD:

21-15-9
Plyo Push ups (2 25lb plates)
Pull Ups
Plate Facing Burpees
KB Swings (70/55)

I RXed the weights and movements, even though I didn’t finish. They put a time cap on it, which was fine. I was glad to have it over with, but still. I would’ve liked to finish. Pretty cool with a pull up WOD that I was able to RX it all. My upper body strength is slowly improving and I want to keep it that way.

Crossfit Day 460 – 15.1 – 3/1/15

Let the games begin! The very first WOD of the 2015 CrossFit Open was a repeat. It was the following:

WORKOUT 15.1

Complete as many rounds and reps as possible in 9 minutes of:
15 toes-to-bars
10 deadlifts (115 / 75 lb.)
5 snatches (115 / 75 lb.)

WORKOUT 15.1a

1-rep-max clean and jerk
6-minute time cap

I did 88 reps of 15.1, and then I was 10lbs shy of my old C&J 1RM, and pulled 165. Wasn’t too disappointed with that! The 165 landed me in the top 3 girls for our gym for that part of the WOD, which is pretty awesome!

Dave even came and shot some pictures. Not the most flattering, but that’s fine. 🙂 Progress.

Snatching during 15.1
