My Intro to Being Asked about the Paleo Diet & Clean Eating

People ask me ALL the time on how to get started with Paleo. When I describe Paleo, or at least my personal Paleo plan, most people respond with “UGHHHHH I could NEVER give up bread/sugar/milk/cheese/wheat/cake/candy/ice cream, etc.” or.. “I’m Italian, I grew up on pasta and bread!” Well, I’m Cuban.. I grew up on steak and rice and black beans and bread too. Quit the excuses already.

My polite response to them is *shrug* “I said the same thing, and I tried it for 30 days and it changed my life.. It takes dedication but it’s worth it.”

Here’s how I really want to respond.. “Are you serious???! How the hell do you expect to change your life and lose weight, get stronger and get healthier if you REFUSE to make any serious lifestyle changes??! There is no magic pill or fix. Either do it or don’t, but don’t waste my time if you don’t want to at least TRY something different.” Let me be clear.. I LOVE Paleo, but it requires being strict, having will power, dedication and self-control.

The Whole 9 and The Whole 30 really go over everything in detail. As to why Paleo, what not to eat, what you can eat.. If you eat a lot of bread and wheat right now, and you want to switch to a Paleo plan, you’re going to feel like complete crap for a week or so, which is your body going through bread and sugar withdrawals, but stick with it. It’s worth it! If you Google Paleo Diet and Paleo Recipes, you will find so many awesome resources out there.

As far as soda goes, I used to drink liters (literally) of Diet Coke a day. It’s just colored and flavored water, right? There are no calories or anything in Diet Coke, how could it possibly be bad for you?? This was my thinking for many, many years.

So if you drink soda, you really should watch this video, too..

This video changed my life. I drink water, tea and coffee now. I rarely even drink alcohol anymore just because I don’t like how it makes me feel, and its essentially poison in my body. Everything I consume is fuel and will affect how I feel the next day and day after.. If I eat like crap tonight, I suffer through my workout tomorrow and pay for it. It’s just not worth it!
