Crossfit Break – Moving Weekend! – Never-ending Murph – 5/23-25/15

We bought a new house, and have been taking our time getting stuff over. We have had showings like crazy at our old house, and living there had become a nightmare/impossible. We went ahead and scheduled Memorial Day weekend for the bulk of the move. At least, if nothing else, get everything over that we absolutely needed to have at the new house to stay here.

We rented a truck and I basically took almost a full week off of CF to ‘prepare’ for our moving weekend. Dave and I did it all on our own with zero help from anyone else. We didn’t ask, and most didn’t offer. Besides, this gave us time to sort of pack and go, and take our time moving things instead of rushing through. Not having to direct others was really great, too. I hate barking orders at people, especially while they’re carrying all my shit around. It’s just such a slave/master thing and I’m not into it at all.

So.. mentally prepared, physically ready. We moved. We moved our bed (stupid heavy Tempurpedic) our ikea furniture (which was 14? feet wide by 7 feet high and had to be entirely disassembled, piece by piece), our computers, desks, exercise equipment, clothing, dishes, food, heavy ass reclining chairs, patio furniture, dining tables…. it was crazy. Total madness, but it was also a very calm production.

Since it was just the two of us, we took our time, we worked together, and it went really well, considering. I don’t even think we argued, which is a feat all on its own. We had a great system down, he would carry stuff in (that he didn’t need help with) and I would begin the unpacking process. I kept nesting while he kept distributing. I got our bed set up, our living areas, our bathroom, all of our accessories and crap. Basically, I made the house livable as we went, which made this whole thing a LOT smoother and easy to deal with.

We took all Saturday and Sunday to move, and then Dave took a much needed break and participated in a golf tournament, while I debated whether or not to do Memorial Day Murph or keep organizing, sorting, cleaning, packing and moving. Since I have a hard time doing things that aren’t ‘necessary’ when there’s a list a mile long of things that should be worked on, I decided to skip Murph this year. It was with a heavy heart, but I was glad I did. Part of the reasoning for skipping included my rational thought process of, well, I don’t want to fuck myself up when we’re trying to move to a new house. Because I haven’t been crossfitting regularly, or nearly as often as I had in the past, I knew my body just couldn’t handle a WOD like Murph, and in the end, I accomplished a lot more and without any lingering pain or sustained injuries.

Dave knew I felt badly about missing Murph, so he dubbed our weekend “Never-ending Murph”, since all we did was lift heavy shit and walk for miles in and out of the houses for 2 1/2 days. Thanks Dave. 😉 Totally made me feel better! (For real). And I was able to honor those who gave their lives in my own way.

Hey Let’s Go Snowboarding in New Hampshire! March 25th-29th, 2015

I was on a whirlwind trip around the country after Pete and Katie left! First my e-bff and I decided it would be fun to go snowboarding in New Hampshire. I had never been up there and she hadn’t ridden in forever, so our thoughts were.. fuck it. Why not?! So we did.

Typically how the two of us are, I am learning.

So.. I drove to West Palm Wednesday night (the 25th of March) and early the next morning, we flew to Boston, rented a sweet car (sweet talked the guys at the rental car company into upgrading us to a TAHOE YES PLEASE), and thank god, because so many things happened where our sweet Tahoe came in quite handy. And.. being girls, who were SNOWBOARDING, we way overpacked and had way too much shit. Totally no big deal with a Tahoe though.

Us in our sweet Tahoe, on a mission to find food. We settled on Chipotle as our Welcome to Boston meal.

After delicious Chipotle, we set north for Attitash Mountain! A few hours north into New Hampshire. Apparently we also took some back roads that we didn’t have to take, but whatevs, we didn’t know that. We made it, loved the location of our sweet little mountain chalet apartment. Equipped with groceries, our snowboards, and everything else, we decided to do a few practice runs before we called it a night.

Her giggles and my giggles pretty much set the stage for our trip. We laughed and talked shit and daydreamed and laughed some more, and it was amazing! We cooked almost every meal, sat and watched lots of TV and we went snowboarding!! It was awesome.

Snow check with our coffee!

Ready! Where’s the lift??

WE FOUND THE LIFT!

Out exploring!

Love this girl so much! And.. to think that it was CrossFit that brought us together, too!! Friendships like this are so hard to come by. To have someone out there who will just.. up and plan a trip with me for no reason (JUST BECAUSE OKAY!?) is so awesome. E-BFF FOREVS

Life Happens, I’m just not very good at it sometimes. 4/15/15

Just posted this to my Facebook page.. It’s my own version of Buddha’s words, but much more fitting for my life.

In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how eagerly you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you.
So far, I have learned that I love too much, I don’t always live eagerly enough, and I need to work on this gracefully letting go thing..

I won’t elaborate. Yes, things are fine. No, I’m not perfect. I need to get a hold of myself and just work on being awesome. I often place too many expectations on others, and the end result is just me getting let down. I need to knock that shit off.

I am my own. I am lucky and fortunate. I have everything I could possibly want or need. I need to work on appreciating it all. It’s so easy to lose sight of all this, and instead focus on the things I can’t have, or don’t have but really want. We will all be okay.

How Motivated am I Right Now? I’m not.. 4/12/15

I’m motivated just fine to go to the gym, but when it comes to updating this damn blog, I am not motivated at all. It actually drives me crazy, because the more I go work out, the more my posts accumulate, and the more I dread posting.

Awesome.

Expect to see several short, sweet, and to the point posts this week, in my lame attempt to catch up. If nothing else, these posts serve as a record for me for my workouts and my progress. I need to keep remembering that as the main focus for starting this.

yaaaaay

My trip to the Pacific Northwest – 1/8 thru 1/13/15

I had gone to Portland, OR area for my first ever trip to the Pacific Northwest. It was just as amazing as I had expected! My friend Josh lives out there now, and we’ve been friends for almost 10 years! We taught high school together back in 2005 (holy young kids..) and it was wonderful to get to spend time with him and his kids. We went hiking, too!

Standing on a fallen log over the river!

Awesome old tracks

At the Gorge!

Visiting the waterfalls!

With Josh’s kiddos! Rain and Revan.

Again with the babies

A must. Starbucks!

And that about sums it up. Oh yeah, and Josh bought a house! So proud. It was a great time, and I’m already looking forward to going again. I happened to get a killer airfare out there, so I jumped on the opportunity. I’ve always wanted to go, and this is the year of “making things happen”. AWESOME.

Two Weeks Later and No Updates – 1/18/15

It’s not because I haven’t gone, it’s because I haven’t had the desire or drive to recant every detail about my workouts. I will catch up eventually. Maybe this week.

I also did some traveling; I went out to the Pacific Northwest for a few days and it was incredible.

Sometimes, we get into the mundane, day to day living. Sometimes we get these moments of incredible, while the rest is filled in with ho hum. I’m trying to find and create more of the incredible, and figuring out how to discard the unnecessary ho hum without disrupting everyone else’s lives around me.

Does not sound like an easy feat. I’m just kind of living right now. great big hugs to my readers. I’m okay. I’m still working out. I’m still doing things. I’m at one of the lowest weights I’ve been at in years. I physically feel great.

Maybe it’s because I’m getting old. Sigh.

Droid Turbo – 12/2/14

Just an update…

I LOVE MY NEW PHONE! Holy crap, it’s incredible. Droid Turbo. Check it out. I’ve been using it since 2p today, and it’s incredible! I got the 64g version with the ballistic material stuffs on the back.

Total Motorola fan/groupie/whatevs. This thing is amazing.

Here’s a selfie. (not demonstrating its picture taking qualities here..)

Still Recovering from Foot Pain – 9/20/14

This is just stupid. It’s my own fault. I am not stretching the way I should be, because when I COULD be stretching, I feel okay. It’s not until I stand up and try to walk that I’m like, omg I need to do something about this. So, I’m a fool. I keep doing things to aggravate my arch, but.. on a positive note, it IS getting better.

I’m sure the DUs and the box jumps and the running and the sprints all contributed to the injury. Standing on my feet all day barefoot at the office does not help either. Like I said, I recognize that it’s my own fault. Of course it feels way better after I move around and it’s all warmed up. I went to the gym for a bit yesterday and I forgot that it was even hurt to begin with. It’s more of an itchy ache on the inside of my heel, right on the underside of my foot, where the heel attaches to my arch. Such fun.

Just in time for a strength competition tomorrow! Very excited. 🙂

Carb Nite Bloat, 3 Days Later? – 8/20/14

I’m STILL not back to my pre-carb nite self.. My stomach feels bloated and puffy (last week it felt flatter and slimmer and smaller, firmer..) and my weight hasn’t budged from 214. I try to rationalize it, like.. oh.. well yesterday I had pooped before I weighed myself and I was 214 and this morning I weighed myself but I hadn’t gone yet.. so surely there’s some value in that! Right..?

I know you’re not supposed to weigh yourself every day. I don’t care. I want to know. I know weight fluctuates (or not..) over time. I also know that I’ve been the same goddamned weight give or take like 5lbs for 2 years now. So.. stripping my body of carbs felt amazing. The results of eliminating most of the carbs from my diet felt incredible! I felt stronger, leaner… and then stuffing my face with crap for a few hours felt terrible, and now my only train of thought is.. WHAT WAS I THINKING?! Why did I do that??? Whyyyyyyyyyy… I could be sitting pretty at 209 or something right now but nooo. Instead, I feel like my body doesn’t work the same way as everyone else’s and well.. those carbs and shit I ate Sunday, it just grabbed onto and HELD onto.

Overreacting. I know. I’m curious to see how the next few days pan out. If I’m not back to my 210 weight (my Day 11 Carb Nite weight) then I’m not carbing up again. Nope. I’ll just go back to what works for me and eliminate the carbs. This whole ‘stuff your face with everything high glycemic’ mumbo jumbo is madness.

Maybe I should read some more of the book instead of just the ‘what to do and when to do it’ part….

So far, I don’t like having a “Carb Nite” – 8/19/14

Yes, I love having my ‘sweet’ foods once a week as a treat, but… I can’t handle the stuffing that is supposed to occur once a week. I feel a little draggy, a little lethargic from Sunday night’s binge. It could also be the lack of coffee in my system right now..

I was doing so great without any cravings for my 11 days, and today and yesterday the cravings for dried fruit, snacks, whatever, came right back. I’m wondering if this will be this vicious cycle of eliminating cravings and bad food for 6 days, having those bad foods one night, and then starting all over again.

We’ll see how tonight goes with the workout. So far, I’d rather just do a low carb diet eating paleo-ish and clean foods, and have a little something one night a week. We’ll see.

AND my weight spiked back up to 214 yesterday and today. If that shit doesn’t change, then depriving myself of carbs all week long just to binge on Sunday nights and bloat back up will NOT be worth it.

Argh. Just discouraged now.
