So yes! I neglected to post about my very first 5k run on Saturday when it happened, and of course the fun and exciting bubbliness that happened afterwards has dissipated a bit now, but I’m still REALLY FREAKING EXCITED AND PSYCHED THAT I ACTUALLY RAN A 5k!!! WHO DOES THAT?!
Yep.. granted, I was slow, and I walked from time to time for a teensy bit, just to give my poor calves a break, but I did it! I had the two best running mates, Crystal and Denise, and if it weren’t for Anne and Scott, I wouldn’t have gotten off to such a good start! (Not to mention, the headphones that Anne let me borrow, because I’m an ass and forgot mine! Yeah..) Lifesaver! I carried my phone the whole way, just to have my music. Was worth it! So so so happy that I added all my cheeseball spin music to my phone, because guess what?? Spinning music is also really great running music! Who knew?
So anyway, here’s my favorite picture from that day:
Cute, right? We sprinted to the end and it was awesome! (You can see my phone in my left hand.. haha) Also, I’d like to note that my calf muscles have been a bit sore… can you see it in the picture? Yeah, that’s how they always look! They’re pretty crazy, and my shins were painful to touch for awhile after, too. Nice.
Moving along…
My day today.. I can’t believe I’ve only done crossfit 39 times. I guess I’d have more progress if I had done more, but I feel like I haven’t done enough. My body was SO SORE earlier, to the point where I couldn’t move without feeling like I had to throw up (and eventually did, it was gross.. and I induced it, just to get rid of the feeling..) but I also came home and went right into the pool, something I’ve never done, especially considering the water was 76 degrees, which is VERY cold for us Florida people who are used to warmer water temps! But yeah, I went in to my waist, and just walked around, trying to get my muscles to relax and unswell themselves a bit. (is that a word?) It felt pretty good, and after getting out, I sat on the patio with my pups as the night settled in, and it was quite peaceful.
I was seriously worried about driving home, turning the steering wheel, getting out of the car, etc. That’s how badly I was hurting after today’s workout. It wasn’t even the hardest workout I had ever done, but it was all my own body weight. No lifting or anything. It was by far the most exhausting. It was also my first WOD with Tabata in it.. I love tabata stuff, but this was insane! In case you don’t know what it is, tabata training is 8 rounds of 20 seconds on, 10 seconds rest. We had the pleasure of doing the following:
1 tabata of pull ups
1 of push ups
1 of sit ups
1 of squats
So 8 rounds of each of the above mentioned exercises, as fast as possible in 20 second spurts. I did those squats so fast, and my knees hurt so much when I was done, that it hurt just to bend my legs at the joints. wtf? It was great though, and I’m so glad I made it to the gym to get this workout in! I’ve just never been so exhausted from it before.
Time for bed, until next time! (It’ll be Day 40!!)
