Freebie Saturday kicked my ass!!! For starters, we did a shitload of pushups, jumping jacks, high knees and fast feet. Felt really good! I ran around the building with Scott for a part of our warm up, didn’t stop, and everyone seemed to think that that meant I actually liked running. I hate it. I just wanted to get it over with. haha Doesn’t mean I can’t do it, it just means I hate it, don’t want to do it, and wanted it over with. And Scott was a good person to run alongside! Thank you, sir, for that..! Made it much better. 🙂
Our WOD today, for the newbs who got to experience Crossfit Inertia for the first time, was pretty hard. I’m not sure they’ll be coming back after today! Hell, a couple didn’t make it through the push ups in our warm up. I wanted to be like. JUST STICK WITH IT! But I got so tired of hearing the “I can’t do this, I can’t do that” that I didn’t bother intervening. If they want to do it, they’ll figure out a way.
I’m not usually one for partners, especially when it’s a random assignment, but today I didn’t have a choice.
400m Run (twice around the building) with a weighted medicine ball (mine was 14 lbs)
*this was weird, because we had to share the load with our partners.. My partner had no qualms with running WITHOUT the ball, which meant that I had to run WITH the ball.. but when she offered to take over carrying the ball, she couldn’t run more than 10 feet with it, and she’d tell me she couldn’t do it anymore, over and over, and pass it back to me like she was going to fall over. And I’d stop to walk with her, and then she’d start running again. (God, it’s just so much easier to run when someone else is carrying that giant, heavy ball!)
Don’t get me wrong, she was super nice, and had some health/knee/elbow/shoulder issues, but… no offense, not my problem, please don’t make it interfere with my workout. I felt like I was the one with the handicap.
Moving on:
50 jumping squats. And every time we’d pop back up, we had to jump up and raise the ball all the way up over our heads. (I did the real ones, my partner just squatted with the ball…) We ‘shared’ the load of the squats.. and I tried to be encouraging.. Okay! You got this! You do 10, and then I’ll do 10.. which apparently meant she’d do 6, and then I’d do 14.
100 overhead lunges. I had to hold the medicine ball over my head the entire time. She had a modified version where she just held it to her chest and sort of bent over/lunged. Again, we ‘shared’ the load on this one..
50 sprawls. (Shared..) I would bend over with my hands on the medicine ball, and then jump my feet backward so I was in sort of a butt up in the air plank kind of position, and then back to the ball. I’m sure I was doing it wrong, but it was hard! I even lost my grip and slipped and fell. Skinned my knee and made it bleed. It was awesome! (IT’S NOT CROSSFIT IF YOU’RE NOT BLEEDING!)
Her modified version was squatting with the ball and touching it to the ground.
Then, we finished it all off with another nice 400m run. See above for description. She had no problem telling me while we were walking during the last lap that “you sure are breathin’ pretty hard there..” and I was like, “yeah, cause I’m carrying the GODDAMNED BALL HERE..”
(Erin and Erin, please please please don’t make me partner up with someone like that again..!!)
All in all though, it was a great workout. Even if it was unbalanced, I just got that much more work in. I really don’t like to complain, but man, I did not enjoy the whole partner thing. I hope she tries it again, and sticks with it. I tried to be positive about how good you feel after a workout, but I’m not sure she’ll feel the same way as I did from it. She might end up more hurt/injured after the fact than when she started. I give her MAJOR credit for trying though! That’s more than any of my friends and family did. Haha
Alright, my schedule for this coming week:
