Crossfit Day 352 – Push Jerk PR – 3/18/14

WOO PR!!!! And on a day where, as usual, I didn’t expect to PR anything πŸ™‚

Strength: 10 Minutes to find a 1RM Push Jerk

I got 175!! HOLY SHIT I can push 175 freaking pounds over my head. That’s nuts. My wrists were really my only set back. Oh well. Still AWESOME.  Russ said I had more in me, but that will have to wait til next time. πŸ™‚

WOD:

100 Double Under Buy In
-Then
3 Rounds
10 – Power Cleans (135/95)
10 – S2OH (135/95)
– Then
100 Double Under Buy Out

I started with doubles and just ended up doing singles. I probably did like 20-25 DUs total, and then finished up with 200 singles. I also finished out with maybe 10-15 DUs and ended up to singles, completing about 200.

My time was  13:02. I’ll take it! Good WOD.  wish I could’ve stuck with the DUs but I felt the pain in my shins and it just wasn’t worth it.

Crossfit Day 351 – 14.3 – 3/14/14

So…. my attempts at going to the gym were unsuccessful, however I did get my yoga on a few days, which at least.. we did SOMETHING, right? And Dave was gone, and my friends came into town (awesome!) AAAND I got the gross stomach bug that swept the Jax Beaches and beyond. Luckily it was only 24 hours (and happened on 3/12/14).

By the 13th, I felt amazing, and by the 14th, I was ready to take on 14.3. The cool thing was, my friends were here with me and we were going to do it together!

Now.. what’s so great about these people?? I have known Katie and Pete for YEARS. Like almost 10 years, but I never actually MET them in person. They were real life internet friends! People I’ve known since I first started riding motorcycles, and we’ve just kept in touch over the years. So awesome. Doubly awesome is… I have inspired them to try out and commit to a CrossFit routine up by where they live, simply because I did it myself. Katie has now been crossfitting for about a year-ish, and Pete just a couple months. And here Pete was, an avid anti-crossfit person, too! HAH. Kool-Aid tastes DELICIOUS. πŸ˜‰ (kidding) Mmmmmm..

Pete had a track day in Jennings, FL, which is Dave’s and my favorite track in FL. The problem is, we just don’t really ride anymore, so to go to a track day is completely not going to happen. He figured since he’d be so close to us (about 2 hours) that he’d go ahead and make the drive over to the Jax area and spend a few days here. Katie was able to get time off work, and flew in Wednesday night (the very ending of my gross stomach bug) and we were able to spend 3 awesome days together!

Thursday was awesome. I got to show them the offices, we went to breakfast, we went to Town Center, we wandered all over the place, and then we went to the gym for the 14.3 announcement.

AND FINALLYYYYYYYYYY. A WOD we could all do!! Deadlifts and box jumps. Thank you Lord!

Friday, at 10a, we all did the WOD together. Pete and I went in the first heat, and then Katie went in the 2nd heat, so we got to cheer her on!!

To be able to WOD with these awesome people was probably one of the neatest experiences so far.  My internet friends were now my real life friends, too! We had a BLAST. I ended up scoring 106, which is great, because literally, my goal was like 80, hah. Katie got 95 (FUCK YEAH!) AND.. Pete got 105.

I was so proud of Pete and Katie though! As a new Crossfitter, he did so well! And she ended up destroying those deadlifts! So proud of these two. So so so proud!! *beaming*

Seriously, check out how cute we are!

Crossfit Open – 14.2 – 3/9/14

Ah yes.. 14.2 another WOD I was going to totally suck at. This is where the flood of comments such as “cool, well my score will be a good, strong, solid 10” took over social media.

All the people that signed up for the Open who were promised they could all compete just like everyone else, and that it would be fun, were doubly let down this time around.  I just laughed. It was like.. yeah.. awesome. Here we go! 10 reps, awesome.

The WOD:

WORKOUT 14.2

Every 3 minutes for as long as possible complete:
From 0:00-3:00
2 rounds of:
10 overhead squats
10 chest-to-bar pull-ups
From 3:00-6:00
2 rounds of:
12 overhead squats
12 chest-to-bar pull-ups
From 6:00-9:00
2 rounds of:
14 overhead squats
14 chest-to-bar pull-ups
Etc., following same pattern until you fail to complete both rounds

I got 10. In fact, I walked into the gym, picked up a loaded bar, did my 10 reps of overhead squats (65lbs) in front of Tom and Amanda, and then put the bar down and submitted my score.

Oh well. Maybe next year, regionals will be in my sights. πŸ˜‰

Okay I feel compelled to write a follow up – 3/22/14

Aren’t we all lucky? I get to write some more about whatever.

Do you know how much it sucks to go back and re-read all the WODs I did (what, who are we kidding, I did like 2) in the time that’s passed since my last post and then write about them all over again? It sucks.

I wish I had the strength, stamina and motivation to go back to CrossFit daily. I miss that. I was wondering the other day if it had anything to do with my Taurine and Magnesium supplement-taking. It’s supposed to be a stress reducing combination, and holy shit it works. I take Taurine and Magnesium with my BCAAs, and since I started, I’m kinda like yeah whatevs. Not counting the franticness which you can luckily witness here that will always be an inherent part of me, but for the most part, since my new supplementation, I’ve been like.. seriously, Meh. Whichever. I guess I can go tomorrow.

I DON’T LIKE THAT. I do however like the less stressed version of me, but.. damn it. I want to crave my workouts instead of being like “oh shit.. C2B? I can’t do those, and they’ll hurt my hands anyway.. fuck it, I have episodes of rehab addict to catch up on.. and laundry.”

We’ll see. Time to go through the last 2 weeks of my life and rehash my emotions and attempt to capture them here.

Life Happens – 3/21/14

I’ve been meaning to update for awhile now but then I keep forgetting. My time on the computer seems to be only work-related and then.. when I get home, it’s like, drop the dogs off, quickly change, let them out, get your water, do you have a lid? shit. no.. oh well. shoes, which shoes? sandals, we’re going to yoga, okay cool. towel, check, water, check. Is there gum in the car? (I always chew gum during yoga and crossfit, it’s my thing..) okay got everything, keys, water, towel, shoes, go.

And then.. I braid my hair on the way there. I get there, I do my whatever it is I’m doing (yoga, or crossfit) and then.. I’m done. I relax for a minute, chat with the people around me, get back in the car, and then it begins all over again. Look at the clock, what will Dave want for dinner? Do I need to change again? Yes, I’m gross. Okay. rush rush rush rush.

All day I’ll spend in production, or on the computer designing stuff for customers, handling customer correspondence, helping Marisa, running errands, whichever. And by the end of the day, the above happens. I always try to plan on giving myself enough time to get home and get ready, but I always end up using every last minute of time doing whatever.

My mind wanders with my million to-dos, don’t forget to text so and so, their prints are ready. Don’t forget to take that stuff back, your time is almost up for the return window. Don’t forget to go to the store, we’re out of eggs. Don’t forget we have dinner with so and so tomorrow, make sure the house is clean. Shit, the house needs to be cleaned? Jesus there’s another 2-3 hours of time, just to do the bare minimum. Shit, laundry. Crap. When should I go to crossfit? Can I leave the office early? Should I even go to the office? What a fucking slacker. Best of intentions, and I can never just STOP and be productive, but then I look around and think about it, and the miles long list of things I’ve accomplished has no end in sight. I’m productive, I’m just busy. I feel like I’m not always like this, but I’m like this today, and this is my capturing of what and how I feel at this very moment.

It’s why I crave yoga. It’s not that it necessarily is FUN. It’s hard. It’s challenging, and it’s my own hour inside my own head, where I don’t have to focus on what’s next, what I forgot to do, what needs to be done, etc.

Same with crossfit. All this shit going on can wait. I go to the gym, I bust my ass, I put in the work, and an hour later, I leave feeling like a new person, only to return to the madness inside my head.

I know I’m not the only one who thinks this way, but damn it, everyone else acts like they have their shit together. Do I give off that appearance too?? I suppose I’m capable of ‘looking’ that way, even though I don’t try. Then again, nobody sees me when I’m running around and rushing either. Life is just go go go. Just sitting here to write this is like.. a break in the madness.

And… with that being said, it’s time for cup of coffee #2, and let’s let the day begin. 3, 2, 1, go.

Crossfit Day 350 – 100 Burpees – Snatch Balance – 3/4/14

Hey let’s do heavy snatch balances, overhead squats, and 100 burpees, cool!

We worked on our snatch balance today, from the rack. I got up to 85lbs I think, and was done. It just destroyed my wrists, so I opted to stop.

The WOD:
10-1 Descending Ladder

OHS 95/65
10 Lateral Bar Burpees each round

So.. 10 OHS, 10 burpees, 9 OHS, 10 burpees, 8 OHS, 10 burpees.

AWESOME.

20 min time cap. I stayed neck and neck with Lindsey W, if not just ahead of her, the entire time!! The last round of burpees, she totally pulled a ninja move and slammed like 4 burpees out and beat me by 4 seconds’ time. WTF. It was pretty awesome though. To keep up with her, and to finish almost at the same time! I tried going as fast as I could on the last couple burpees, but she had me. She was standing in front of me but mentally keeping up with my progress the entire time. Pretty impressive.

AND I finished in 17:56. Not bad for 100 burpees and 55 OHS! At least I didn’t think it was a bad time. Some crazy people finished in like, 10 min, 12 min, wtf. Insanity. I just can’t move that fast.

Oh well! It was great. And… talk about shoulders being smoked.. this was definitely the week of shoulder wrecking.

Crossfit – Bound! Happy Camper.

Crossfit Day 349 – All Upper Body – 3/3/14

Woo sled pushes! I took the weekend off after doing 14.1 and ended up getting all sorts of stuff done around the house. Good times. We finished putting the guest rooms back together upstairs FINALLY. We had hardwood floors installed where there was once carpet both up and downstairs, and the two final rooms that needed to be reassembled were up there. It’s just so easy to shut the doors and say.. hmm.. maybe we’ll work on this tomorrow instead…:D

So yes, with Mom and John’s help, Dave and I got the two bedrooms put back together. Dave and John also put up two new ceiling fans that we’ve had in boxes for 2 years now.. we figured with the rooms empty it was a better time than ever before to get those up. Voila!

Cleaning the house is always rewarding. Especially when we get rid of shit we don’t need or want, anymore. I guess that’s a female thing. I really dislike the actual cleaning process, but once it’s done, I’m so grateful that I spent the time doing it.

In any case.. Monday I was back at it.

Strength:
10 x 30m prowler pushes AHAP
Linda and I alternated between the prowler with 2 10lb plates and the prowler with 2 25lb plates, so that was a nice switch up!

WOD:
3RFT
200m OH Plate carry 45/25
15KB 70/55
12 C2B pull ups

I did the 25lb plate carry, the 55lb KB, and then I used bands for my C2B pull ups. Holy hell I was smoked. Serious shoulder workout there. I finished in, I don’t know! They didn’t post the scores to the site. Damn it.. Those 55lb KB swings SUCKED though after the OH plate carry, though! Good times.

Crossfit Day 348 – 14.1 The Crossfit Open Begins! – 2/28/14

So I went in Thursday night to hear the announcement of 14.1 with everyone, which was AWESOME, btw! I love getting together with everyone, especially in at the gym. It’s such a great feeling to be together with our amazing group. πŸ™‚

I waited til Friday to do 14.1, and I went in at 4p and Tom judged me. It was AWESOME. I’m so glad we did it that way!

So.. 14.1 is
10min Amrap
30DU
15 power snatches 75/55

I have DUs, but they’re not that great. Especially when I’m tired or fatigued.  And this shit going on with my achilles, I was a little nervous to do the movement, but whatever, I had to give it my best! This time it counts!

So.. I didn’t warm up my DUs much, because I wanted to be fresh with them. I set a goal for 3 rounds in my head and Tom said, okay then 3 rounds we will get! The snatches were no issue, it was the DUs that wore me out.

BUT.. I got my 3 rounds, and then some!! Total score 149. As of right now, the highest score is Sam Briggs who has a rep count if 472 (10 rounds plus 22 DUs.. JESUS CHRIST) and then in the SE Region the high score is 409. WHOA. Super awesome! Obviously I’m not going to Regionals, but it’s so great to be able to see my progress.

A year ago, I panicked when I saw DUs in the WOD, because back then, I could only do like, 1. And that was completely by chance when it happened! Hah. Now I can at least string 5-10 together when I need to. Progress is happening!!!

All done with 14.1
Rainy and I are all done with 14.1!

Achilles Tendon Fun – Compression and Voodoo Bands – February & March 2014

Soo, 2 weeks ago, during T2B, I jumped off the bar (pull up rig) weird and landed wrong on my heel, which jarred my achilles tendon on my right side. I’m only putting it in here to document my experience, and maybe get some feedback, but also so I can keep track of the pain, etc. Yoga and stretching both to help make it feel amazing again, but it’s like, as soon as my calves tighten up, I experience those stupid sharp pains again. What do I do? I’m an all or nothing kind of person. Either I’m working out all the way, or I’m not doing anything at all. Terrible, I know, but that’s me. When I don’t do anything, I’m mopey and miserable, and even right now I feel like I haven’t been giving it 100% for one reason or another or another, and.. well, I feel like crap as a result. It just seems like there’s always something hindering me from being in optimal shape to perform, and it’s a downward/endless spiral. It SUCKS.

I’ve been trying to keep a positive attitude, but man, I can easily see myself falling back into old habits, and losing control of everything I’ve worked so hard for. I’ve been fighting to fend that off and stay/get back on track. Nobody can do it except for me, and my feelings of motivation come and go, and at night I’m like YEAH I’m gonna do this!! And then at 6a when my alarm goes off (speaking of, I should be making my way to bed soon..) when the alarm goes off, I’m like ehhhhh…… I’ll totally go later.

But.. I got up and went this morning, which means I need to do it again tomorrow! I CAN, I just have to force myself to. FUN. When I make the effort to go in, and get shit done, it’s awesome. I feel amazing, I just need to look past the soreness and acknowledge that the only way I’ll see progress is if I continue to push myself.

Now, if I’m in pain, that’s a different story. That’s where I’ve been resting a lot more lately. I’ll just be hurting, and no amounts of BCAAs will help. Back to my old, lingering shoulder problems, and now my achilles crap. It’s like a searing pain when it hurts, and it goes right down the back of my right ankle, a touch to the outside, right to where it attaches to the heel. It’s like, you know where you go to put your shoes on sometimes, and the back of your shoe gets bunched up a little and pushes in on the back of your heel/ankle, that’s where the pain is. It’s like I have a blister forming from my shoe, but it’s not a blister, it’s my achilles that’s just sore and hurting.

There’s also my miracle Voodoo bands that I’ve been using, and shockingly, surprisingly, the shit works. I don’t know why, but almost 2 years ago when I hurt my knee trying pistols at Inertia, it took two weeks for me to finally try a voodoo band and then boom, pain was gone. So yes, I’ve been wrapping my calf and ankle on my right leg, and it really does feel better after it’s done, I just need to keep that looseness going in my calves.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LiSIqs2kp0

The above video just demonstrates basic voodoo banding, or tacking and flossing, or use of compression bands for therapy and pain relief.

I need to pick up on this tomorrow. It’s TIME for bed!

Crossfit Day 347 – 2/26/14

WOD: 2 Rounds
1 Minute ME – β€œIsabel” (135/95)
1 Minute ME – β€œGrace” (135/95)
5 Minutes ME – β€œCindy”

3 Minutes Rest, and then repeat.

Score = Total Isabel Reps/Total Grace Reps/Total rounds + Reps of Cindy

14/18/5+9
So in 2 rounds, I did 14 squat snatches, 18 clean and jerks and then did 5 rounds plus 9 reps of Cindy.

That was a good one!
