Crossfit Day 336 – Saturday WOD – 1/25/14

Momma and I did our Saturday WOD together, and it was awesome!! We started off with some excellent Death by 12 Meter runs, and I got up to 14 and said okay, I’ve had enough! Mom kept going like, 2 or three more minutes after! She’s a badass, although she won’t admit it and doesn’t believe you when you tell her.. Oh Mom.

Our WOD was a 20 min AMRAP of the following:

5 wall balls, 10 burpees, and 15 air squats. I got through 8 + 8 rounds, good stuff! Awesome WOD for sure, and it was COLD out too!!

Afterwards, a big group of us met at First Watch for my Birthday Brunch! I wanted to be able to celebrate my 33 years with friends locally! So about 25-26 people came out and we all had breakfast together.

My Birthday Brunch Saturday WOD!

Wodapalooza Miami – January 17th – 19th, 2014

Well, I decided to take off Wednesday and Thursday from WODDing and stuck with some power yoga instead. That felt good, and it was a nice break for my body to recover. We headed to Miami Thursday so I could get registered and we could get settled in to our condo, etc.

Of course I also took over a week to write this post, so it’s kind of boring now, trying to recall the details of the trip. I was excited to be there, to go back and do this all over again. My first BIG competition, 1 year later! 3 days of WODs, 7 WODs total, including one that I promised Dave that I would skip, due to the grossness and unnecessary risk it would put me at.

That WOD was the Triathlon, to take place on Saturday. It was the following:

Swim 300m in Biscayne Bay (Port of Miami)
Row 2000m
Run 2000m

So, before all this happened, I wanted to go swimming just to see if it was something I could actually do. On Wednesday the 15th, I went to LA Fitness with my friend Chuck to work on my swimming. It was a challenge, a mental thing, to see if I could do it. We did some warm ups, sprints, etc, and I clocked myself the first two 50m sprints that I did. 40 seconds approximately, but I was winded after each one. Doing a 300m swim would be rough. My lungs were not looking forward to it!

We moved forward with it anyway, and he timed me. I finished my 300m swim in 6:50. YES. It was more of a “I know I can do this” than anything else. Knowing I could’ve done it was more important than actually jumping in the disgusting water of Biscayne Bay. As beautiful as that water is, I’d never swim in it, especially right next to Bayside, the marina, the port, and with the water treatment plant just across the way. Nobody else apparently had an issue with this, as most of the competing athletes swam. I didn’t want to take my chances, so I sat it out.

The WODs throughout the weekend seemed to be upper body focused, which overall isn’t a strength of mine. One of the WODs even had 30 pullups for scaled, just to start the WOD. I got my awesome score of 1 for that one, since I got my one pull up. I went ahead and finished the WOD and did jumping pull ups, (didn’t get a score for it) but I didn’t want to stand there like an asshole, either.

Upper body stuff for the most part, is my weakness. That and endurance-based activities. I need to work on it, and yoga has definitely helped. (Now that we’re back home and back into a mostly normal routine, it’s nice to get back into my workout regimen of Power Yoga once a day and CrossFit once a day.)

I’m gonna end it with these pictures. 🙂 Enjoy!

Crossfit Day 335 – Bring a Friend Day – 1/22/14

ANOTHER Bring a Friend Day! Mommy and I went together this time. It was a 20 min AMRAP of the following:

1 partner runs 400m while the other partner does T2B, push ups and thrusters. I forget the numbers. And of course, the board isn’t fully pictured. Something like 12 T2B, 12 thrusters and 20 push ups.

We got through 5 plus 18? I can’t see the board from the crap picture posted. Oh well! We did it. We showed up and did the work. 🙂 Awesome Mommy!

Crossfit Day 334 – Bring a Friend Day – 1/21/14

Woo fast writing! Bring a Friend Day, Fight Gone Bad style.

3 Rounds
1 min ME Row
1 min ME Wall Balls
1 min ME Burpee Box Jumps
1 min ME ab mat sit ups
1 min rest

Since this was literally 2 days after getting home from Wodapalooza, and I had only taken one day off (my birthday, January 20th) I was still a little sore and weak feeling from the competition. I didn’t push it, I just wanted to work out.

My score was 162.

Crossfit Day 333 – 1/14/14

This was another one of the WODs for Wodapalooza Fitness Festival, my upcoming 3 day competition in Miami.

WOD: 3 Rounds

3 – Rope Climbs
7 – S2OH (185/115)
11 – Burpee Box Jumps (30/24″)

The WOD for scaled was ring rows instead of the rope climbs, so I did those, along with 85lb shoulder to overhead, and 20″ box.

Finished in 8:33! That one was rough. It was great that Justin programmed these in, so those of us competing could get a baseline or an idea of what we’d be facing once we got down South. 🙂

Crossfit Day 332 – 1/13/14

This was one of the WODs for Wodapalooza Fitness Festival, my upcoming 3 day competition in Miami.
Strength: Max Effort Lower
1.) 1RM Thruster
2.) 3×8: Sumo Stiff Leg Deadlift – AHAP

WOD: For Time
40 – KB Goblet Squats (55/35)
60- KBS (55/35)
800m – Run

Since the WOD didn’t have an 800m run in it, but instead a 40 cal ski erg, I did that to mimic the workout. I finished in 8:18

Crossfit Day 331 – 1/10/14

Just playing catch up here right now.. Let it be known that I do NOT like banded bench or banded anything for that matter, except banded pull ups. Banded bar anything sucks and feels totally unstable to me.

Strength: Dynamic Effort Upper

1.) 6×3: Banded Bench Press – :30 Seconds Rest
Bar Weight = 40% of 1RMBand Tension = 1RM Under 150# – Orange, 1RM Under 250# – Red, 1RM Over 250# – Blue

2.) 3×10: Bent Over Rows – AHAP

WOD: 9 Minute AMRAP
10 – S2OH (115/75)
15 – Lateral Bar Hopping Burpees
Finished the WOD with 4 and 1 rep and did the RX weight oh yeahhh.

Crossfit Day 330 – 1/9/14

I went in at 7a for this one, but I was the only one there, so Jacob decided to do the WOD with me. Because it was so cold, it was hard for me to do the snatch pulls that we were doing for our strength portion, at least at a 1RM weight, so I scaled it down a bit.

cold = the suck for weightlifting.

Our WOD was the following:

WOD: 4 Rounds

22 – Wall Balls (20/16)
11 – T2B

I started off with T2B but my hands always hurt and I’m always so terrified of blistering and tearing, so I switched to K2E and finished in 8:01. Woo..

Crossfit Day 329 – Squat Clean PR! – 1/7/14

Thank God for the 7:30p class! My Tuesday turned out to be like my Monday and Marisa stayed home again. She needed to stay home though, having her come in would’ve been stupid and torturous, and just not fair to her!  Tuesday was also the day that Dave agreed to try out Big Fish Basics with me, because I really wanted him to get the feel for what my yoga practice felt like. So we went at 8a, knowing I’d be in production again on my own, but I really wanted to honor the time I had set aside for him, and we went! 🙂

He of course did amazing, as with everything he tries, and he actually enjoyed the practice and movements, but he said the “Om stuff just wasn’t for him”. We went on to discuss the idea of me becoming a yoga teacher, or at least getting my certification to do so, with the intentions of then being able to work with him at home. It’s actually something I’m seriously considering, and I really want to do, but I’m not willing to make the time commitment just yet. That’s another post though. 🙂

So.. anyway, that’s why I didn’t make it to Crossfit in the morning. I went at 7:30p instead! That day we did the following:

Strength: 15 Minutes to find a 1RM Squat Clean

AND I PRed MY SQUAT CLEAN at 175lbs!!!!!!! I’ve never found a 1RM for my squat clean before, and my power clean was at 165 from Crush Games in Fort Lauderdale, BUT.. today!!!! I SQUAT CLEANED 175! I missed my first attempt, and with 3 minutes left, one of the guys who was in the class, Chris, gave me a little bit of encouragement and said to give it another shot.. Well WTF do you know, I GOT IT. I remember doing the pull, getting under the bar, and as I caught it in the front rack and held steady in a full squat, I made a face at Chris like Whaaaaaaat???? And he goes, “okay now stand up!!” haha I can front squat 215, so I for sure can stand up from a full depth squat at 175! And I did, (with a big yell and grunt, of course) and it was amazing!!! I was so proud. Even as I write this almost a week later, I’m beaming with pride that I did that. I pulled 175 lbs!! In a squat clean, no less! I hate squat cleans! Haha

That squat clean was good enough for me to get 2nd place on the leader board, too! YEAH!!

WOD: 10 Rounds
200m Run
5 – Burpee/C2B Pullups

Because it was literally 27* out, I opted to row instead of run. Thank goodness!! Rowing felt like such a smarter decision than running!!  My final time was 19:46, and I used a box for my jumping C2B pullups. Still, felt amazing, and I was still beaming from my PR. 🙂

Crossfit Day 328 – 1/6/14

So with Wodapalooza fast approaching, I have again set goals for myself to WOD every day during the week as well as go to Yoga daily, as well. I have been so insanely busy though, with this schedule, that the last thing I have time to do is document it. I get home, eat, and plop down with the pups for a bit and then go to bed. I’ve been nodding off around 9:30-10p each night, and I end up waking up a bit, cleaning up the house a little, and then heading off to bed. It’s been a challenge.

Anyway, day 328 went as follows: (love RXing WODs!)

Strength: Max Effort Upper
1.) 1RM Strict Press
2.) 3×10: Close Grip Floor Press

I got 105 on the strict press. I went for 115, but did a tiny knee bend (push press) and I didn’t count it..

WOD: 7 Rounds
7- Deadlifts (225/155)
7 – Box Jumps (24/20″)
7 – HR Pushups

This was a good one! I RXed the weight, and suffered through it, but finishing a WOD like this just leaves you feeling so exhilarated! I love it.  AND it was at 7a, which means I go in, get it done, and get on with my day. I finished in 9:46, which is longer than most people took, but again, I RXed it, which… only a few other girls did. WEEE!  I’ll take it. 🙂

So.. I got a call at 7:30a (during the workout, so I didn’t hear my phone) from Marisa, who had gotten sick over the weekend. Miserably sick, stomach flu sick!! Let’s just say it’s a really good thing I opted to work out that morning instead of in the afternoon, because my day went from being a normal Monday with the two of us running production, to just me running production. I don’t know what I’d do without her! I knew she needed to rest and get better though, so I just made the best of it. But seriously, had I not gone in at 7, I wouldn’t have made it to the gym at all. It was a long day.
